Corporate Culture (The TPZ Brand)
The corporate culture is premised upon the TPZ STRIPE values. The values are explained below.
These values are derived from the TPZ guiding principle that is freedom through responsibility, strength from diversity, enterprising spirit and open minded.
TPZ and the Society
TPZ is geographically located in the Southerton Industrial society. It is neighbors with the Breatice Hospital of infectious Diseases and the lobels Bread Factory. With these organizations within its proximity, TPZ has been socially responsible as highlighted in the social responsibity policy. The summary of the nature of TPZ relations with the society is embedded in the social responsibility policy elaborated below.
Quality and service excellence has been at the core of its services and in 2002 was I.S.O certified on the environmental and quality management systems; EMS 14001:2004 and QMS 9001:2000 through Anglo Japanese American (AJA). For logistical reasons, TPZ decided to use Standards Association of Zimbabwe (SAZ) which is the government approved standards certifying body for all its I.S.O audits in 2005.The subsequent business partnership has seen SAZ supporting TPZ on all surveillance and re-certification audits thereby providing the third party assurance needed by customers.
The GLT (Green Leaf Threshing) process which is the mainstay of TPZ is highly labor intensive and the company employs over 1700 contract employees annually, who are commonly known as seasonals.
Safety, Health and Environment
Tobacco Processors Zimbabwe (Pvt) Ltd aims to apply the best international standards of practice in all aspects of its operations which relate to the health and safety of its employees at work and non-company personnel on company premises and the conservation of the physical environment and to give a high priority to these activities. The company has therefore won National and International Safety Awards inter-alia as follows:
BAT Zero Accident Award for the year ending 4 October 2000(Recognition of working 1 year with no Lost Wok Day Case)
BAT Zero Accident Award for the year ending 5 August 2002(Recognition of working 1 year with no Lost Wok Day Case)
BAT 5 000 000 Accident Free hours for the period 6 August 2001-9 October 2002
From 1999 till now the company has been getting the regional sectoral awards from NSSA. At the 2009 NSSA conference the company received a Gold Award for coming first in the regional Commerce and Distribution sector.
